Californians Wake Up!
This post is about the elections in California.
I’m a native Californian, born and raised in the Silicon Valley of northern California. I’ve lived here all my life and have seen a lot of change. With the coming elections this year, I ask what kind of California do we want?
The state is bleeding from a huge budget deficit like other states. Instead of representing their constituents, politicians stand their ground against each other, so the other side doesn’t win. Unemployment is over twelve percent. Education has been cut severely along with other services. The current governor is threatening draconian cuts that will hurt the most vulnerable people and poor.
Into this mess have come, so called, conservative candidates that smell blood and an opportunity to take control of our state to benefit themselves and their fellow greedy rich class. None of these candidates have any political experience. All of them are rich former corporate CEOS with questionable issues and plans for the state. Meg Whitman wants to run the state like a corporation. She has former ties with the Goldman Sachs fiasco. Carly Fiorina resigned from HP after E-mails came out on her plans to betray her fellow coworkers. Steve Poizner is another rich man that has a racist attitude toward Hispanics, saying they don’t have Silicon Valley ambition.
I’m not thrilled with the Democrats either. But let me make this clear. None of the candidates are going to represent the average people of California. They are only going to protect the interests of their fellow rich people and corporations. They will cut taxes on the rich, force more of a burden onto the middle class and poor. They want to break the unions, so they can have a bunch of minimum wage slaves with no benefits working to increase the profits of already bloated companies.
I don’t want to see my state turned into a playground for the wealthy where they’ll enjoy all the fruits of the golden state while the rest of us suffer. They will drive the poor, elderly and others out, leaving behind paid slaves to serve them and increase their wealth.
I say to my fellow Californians: LET’S NOT LET THIS HAPPEN! It’s time to return our state to its golden past. People and corporations need to pay their fair share of progressive taxes. Corporations that outsource jobs from the state but do business or sell a product here should pay a higher tax. Education and higher paying jobs should be a priority for our politicians. We need to take our state back from the special interests that protect their profit margins to the detriment of our citizens. If not, California will become a playground for the wealthy and rest of us will be screwed out of our right to live in this wonderful state.
